Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My Magic Chef machine is 17 years old, but looks like new, so I hate to part with it. It stops during the SPIN cycle. I fiddle with it, like turning the dial around a couple of times and it will come to life and complete the spin cycle. Suggestions welcome.

Check the lid switch,it is located in the area where the lid lands on the washer housing when closed it is a safety feature that shuts off the machine if you open the door during the spin cycle, they can get touchy due to vibration from running, also check your balance ring,if you have a severly unbalanced load it will stop the machine

If you grab the bowl of the washer and try to spin it back and forth, does it feel loose and sloppy?

If so it is probably a bearing which might not be the easiest thing for you to change if you've never done it before. It shouldn't be very expensive, especially if you can take the machine apart and have it ready for the repair man.

Magic Chef DISHWASHER - mODEL du4k, STOPPED DURING drain cycle

I am assuming that the pump motor is bad, and since the unit is at least 15 years old (just guessing), we decided to wash the dishes by hand till after the holidays!!

Tub does not spin but agitates

Sounds like the door switch is either loose or faulty. The door switch keeps the tub from spinning with door/lid open.

My washing machine drains but does not spin

Look for a motor belt that is worn out and make sure that the drum turns freely (machine off).

Magic Chef CAV2005AWW makes a noise in agitate cycle

Sounds like a problem in the gear case. This would be a transmision replacement.
