The internet is slow - bypassing the router and going from modem direct to my computer and it works great - how can it test the router

So your saying, you have a cable router (modem), then you went from the cable router to a router then the PC.

If you have cable, you only use a cable router, there is no need to have a regular router after your cable modem.

If you are using the added router just for a firewall, don't, waste of time.

Just make sure that windows firewall is on and checked no incoming
connections, unless you have to for certain programs.

If you really want to stay safe, get zonealarm firewall, this will also keep software from calling home.

If you think your not safe, then do a port scan on your ip address.

The router is very slow after reset


Try changing MTU size on the router and see if that works.
Connect the computer to the router.
Open the setup page of the router.
On the setup page you will see MTU. Change it to manual and size to 1365.
Save the settings AND power cycle router.

First connect the computer directly to the modem and make sure that your modem is working properly.
If you are getting slow internet through the modem then you will need to contact your Internet service provider.

Make sure that your router is running on the latest firmware.

After upgrading firmware, reset and reconfigure it.

I cannot connect to internet


What is the model number of your router?
Bypass the router and connect the computer directly to the modem.
Make sure that your computer is able to access the Internet through the modem.
If the modem is working fine the connect the modem to the router and computer to the router.
Reset the router for 30 seconds.
Power cycle the router.
open the setup page of the router using 192.168.1.1.
Try to setup linksys router.

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

First, if you are connecting to the router with wireless, there are a couple of possible problems. If you are using Wireless B, you'll probably only get around 4 or 5 mbps at best, and even with wireless G, if you happen to have your router set to the same channel as your neighbor or several of your neighbors, it will slow down a LOT and could even have trouble staying connected. To check this, try plugging directly into your router and disabling the wireless on your computer temporarily and run this test again. If it is much better, try changing your wireless channel.

Second, I'm not familiar with this particular model of router, but I've found that many of the cheaper and/or older routers cannot handle the current speeds we see on cable and DSL connections. This could also be a problem with your cable or DSL connection. To check this, you can temporarily bypass your router and plug your modem directly into your computer. Remember this exposes your computer directly to the internet, so it's probably not a good idea to leave it that way. You may also have to reboot your modem and even reconfigure it and your computer to do this depending on your ISP. If it is still slow, you will need to contact your ISP and complain!

You can easily identify if it's the router or talk talk. Bypass the router and connect your computer directly to the modem and check if the same problem occurs. If it does, then the problem is talk talk. If not, you can login to the router's setup page by going to http://192.168.2.1 you can see there the MTU

Adsl modem giving very slow and intermittent internet connection


this is not a problem with ur PC or router this could be in the Filter or splitter that ur ISP gave you, what i would do is call ur ISP and have them run a line test that could be the reason
i work for att. and that does happen ALOT you can also go to
www.speakeasy.net go to the bottom you should see whats my speed or test ur speed click on that and select a server closest to you and it will run a speed test up and download speed

Internet not working modem okay and connected


Do you have a router connected in between the modem and computer, if so go directly to the modem bypassing the router for now, to see if that helps. If it does then you need to reset the router, If Not, reset both the Modem and computer, and see if that helps.

X-Router Pro (MIH-130) difficulties


If from going to Bellsouth to Charter you went from DSL to Cable, you may need to change the MTU on the router to match what is set on your modem (it's often different for DSL than for other networks)
