Hello, Are you using a newer flat panel or and older TV? IF you are using a newer TV the picture will never look very good. IF not, did you try working with the RF adapter? Check all connections. If all else fails try to get another RF adapter to see if that helps. I remember this being a bit problematic even when these were new. Wish I had a definite answer for you! Good Luck - Dr. Know

SOURCE: Atari 2600 Console Power Adapter

The Atari 2600 adapter has the following information on it:

Input: 120V AC 60Hz 12W

Output: 9V DC 500mA

Positive tip

Make sure you test the power supply before you use it. I have 2 original atari power supplies, and they are both putting out about 15V DC, which may be why my atari's aren't working anymore!

Not quite sure what your problem is based on your description. You should have a cable coming out of the console...a long, black cable with an RCA cable on the end. This plugs into the switchbox, which then connects to the TV (probably through a 300 ohm to 75 ohm adapter). Or you could also use a RCA female to F male adapter...that's the cleaner solution.

Now, if you don't have the cable coming out of the back left side of the console, someone has cut or removed it. You can add it back yourself though. Carefully open the console with a screwdriver, and on the circuit board on the inside you should see an RCA jack. Get an RCA cable and plug it into here and run it outside the console through the hole that the original cable would have ran through. Then attach as described before.

SOURCE: Atari 2600 does not have picture when turned on.

The signal is output at 56MHz or 60MHz depending on the channel you use. Normal tv is around 350MHz to 700MHz so you need to got to the bottom range to tune. Also check that the contacts of the game catridge are not black looking, if so clean with some alchol to remove the soot build up, this will make sure the screen is outputted in proper format.

I just got Atari 2600 trying to get it to work on my plasma don't know how to hook it up?

Hello Jamie,
I understand how annoying it is to connect an older game console, such as the Atari 2600, to newer TV's. Do not fret, all you need is an adaptor to connect between the Atari's RF cable, and the coax jack on your TV.
For example (image curtesy of google search):

You can usually find these at store that specialize in electronic parts, such as Radio Shack here in the United States. The image above is actually from Amazon's site so if it doesn't show properly you can go to: http://www.amazon.com/Intellivision-Colecovision-Adapter-VINTAGE-WITHOUT/dp/B0028MXOF6

How to connect the atari 2600 to a hdtv

Well I think that you need the lastest updated rf switch for an atari 2600 console and plug it into either a VCR or a DVD player then for it to work on this tv type.
4 STARS if this Solution is helpful.

My son just got a atari 2600 console but it will not power up swap the 9 volt and still not power up

Well put it this way yes it a power system failure to fix this problem you basiclly will have to install a new mother board for the console from another atari 2600 console like from ebay. If you find a crappy atari 2600 console with a working motherboard you might just be able to switch it and I fix NES SNES N64 sega gamecube and atari 2600 consoles too. This has a high probility of not working if you don't know what to do or on how to fix it. 8 out of 10 it might not work after this.

I have recently purchased an atari 2600 that came with no rf cable. I understand that using the female phono to male f adapter will work to hook it up, but this leaves me needing to buy the phono cord...

Yes, I know this works because I have done it. I believe both types of cable are the same impedence but different ends so any combination should work. Cheers.

Bought an atari 2600 and an adaptor for my tv still no picture. also it turned my tv to blk and white. where should i start?

If you are using a digital tv you need the lastest up dated rf switch for atari2600
and plug it into a VCR or A DVD player and it will work that way but if its on a CRT tv style just use the rf switch then no special set ups on CRT style tvs.
