NOT RECEVING OR TRANSMITING

Can you see the s-mete if it has one moving up and down on any channel? Do you hear any audio at all? could be a couple of things. Bad mic switch or mic cable, bad antenna or coax, bad audio amp. To check the audio amp plug in a speaker to the PA jack, put the PA switch on PA then press the mic to talk. If it works the audio is fine the mic is good and the mic cable is good. Noiw plug the speaker into the speaker jack, do you hear anything? If not then your antenna or coax has a problem, fix or replace antenna or coax.

Do you need a speaker for the PA so people can hear you?

PA stands for Public address. It is a speaker you mount on the outside of your vehicle so that you can talk to some one out side your car. Also on most radios when you turn on the pa function it will play your receive on the PA so if you are out of your vehicle and want to hear some one on the radio.

You do not need it for radio communications.

My cb has to be has to have to be on pa with external speaker pluged in on pa side to hear people talk. to talk it has to be switched to cb

Take the cover off, and get a can of contact cleaner, make sure its turned off,and spray the PA switch from the inside of radio, spraying into the switch, flipping it up and down as you spray several times, may need to replace the switch. hope this helps..

No rx

so the swr is fine antenna has not been hit by lightning i assume as the swr would be all wacke out check to see if the rf gain is turned all the way down maybe if you have little ones they play with everything as i know all so well. or mabe the squelch was turned allt the way up if either turn squelch down all the way and turn the rf gain all the way up if not the audio chip on the rt side of the board could be shoted out if the radio has pa put switch to pa with external speaker attached key mic and talk if you here yourself talking the chip is good. by the way has the radio been tweaked any time recently it may be also alignment problem??

CB radio PA speaker

Freddy, hello. The first thought that comes to mind with your problem is that if the 29 is an older model, the audio circuit or audio chip could be tired. If your talking about the receive volume being low thru the ext. speaker, then there is a rx. wire inside the mic cord. When it breaks, it cuts the volume in about half. The rx. wire is on pin # 4. Maybe your using the wrong ohm value speaker. You need 4 or 8 ohm. If you are refering to the outgoing modulation being real low, then the radio mod. has just been turned down to 50-60%. That's about all I've got for now, not being able to actuallly see the radio,,, Have a good day, and let me know how it goes,, Mechanic
