Question about Dryers

1 Answer

Kenmore 80 Series gas dryer. Initially fires up but somewhere during the cycle flame goes out and never refires. When I look in the little hole I can see glowing for a short time and then the light goes out. Looks like it is trying to fire back up but doesn't and basically clothes air dry. Takes 2-3 70 min cycles to dry a full load.

I HAVE A KENMORE 80 SERIES GAS DRYER. WHEN YOU TURN IT ON IT FIRES UP AND GETS HOT. AFTER A WHILE (5-10 MIN'S) FIRE GOSE OUT AND WILL NOT COME BACK ON.

Hello,
If what happens is the flame comes on when it first starts,after the flame goes off you see the igniter glows then goes off but no flame,the coils that open the gas valve are working while thier cool but once the dryer gets running,when warm to hot the gas valve coils wont open the gas valve so when the igniter comes on and no flame the coils have failed to open gas valve and need to be replaced, all manufactures use the same coil supplied by one parts supplier, and them not opening the valve when warm is a very common occurence regardless of what brand gas dryer it is.
The part number for the coils is 279834 they could be picked up from your local appliance parts store for under $20 or online at;

Kenmore dryer heats at first then quits

You may have a bad thermocouple. The thermocouple is what "tells" the control unit that the flame is present. If it doesn't tell the control, the control turns the gas off to prevent an explosion.

Gas neptune dryer fires up for 45 sec. to 1 min, then goes out

Could be a couple different things,Possibly a thermostat or high limit that is kicking out too soon,also has a flame sensor next to the burner that can come and go.if you have a toggle switch or pushbutton switch you can unplug the unit take the two wires off the flame sensor (black box about the size of a cigarette pack on the left of the burner)plug them into the switch start the dryer Turn the switch on till the igniter glows bright,turn the switch off and the burner will light if it stays lit at least till it gets to temp replace the flame sensor.(It won't cycle with out flipping the switch each time)

Kenmore 80 series gas dryer has not heat

most of these dryers have a little plastic plug on the front, left side. pop that plug out and look inside after turning it on. you should see a red glow. if not, then your ignitor has broken. if you see a glow, then the problem is probably one of the two little coils on the gas valve. these coils will sense if there is something to light the gas [the red glow] and open the valve - if the coils are bad, they won't open the valve

Dryer heat only at room temp.

You have a thermal fuse and a hi limit thermostat and a flame sensor to check.
Could be any one of the 3 or all 3.

Intermitten Heat up

make sure that your vent is not plug up can you go outside your house and feel good air coming out the vent when the dryer is turn on if so the only other things it could be is the coils that sit on the ignotor assmebly or the high limit termistat is not working properly the coils are little black circle coils that sit in the ignitor assmly should have a metal braket across the top of them holding them in you can check resistance on these coils if you have an meter
