Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My refrigerator has a strange metal/chemical smell that has made all the food taste bad. I have cleaned the refrigerator and thrown away almost everything. The smell is still present. I'm trying to figure out the cause.

Hello - did you ever figure out the metal/chemical smell problem? I seem to be having the same problem in my refrigerator/freezer. It is a side-by-side unit. We were gone over the Labor Day weekend for a few days and when we came back the unit has a metal/iron smell coming from it. Not sure what it could be.
Please let me know if you have any ideas.

I might have a solution for you. I have tried this product from The Fresh and Dry Authority. Their product is called Ultra Pure for the refrigerator. I had bad food odors and now they are gone. To get this product go to their website fdauthority.com. See if it this works for you, it did for me.

Why has the ice started tasting bad even with new filter?

One of the power saving features of new refrigerators is that the cold air from the refrigerator gets recirculated to the freezer. What that means is that if you have uncovered food or odors in the refrigerator, that smell will go up into the freezer and your ice will take on that taste. Throw away all bad food, clean, cover all food, and put a box of baking soda in your refrigerator and this should help.

The ice from the icemaker in my frigidaire has a chemical taste and smell. The refrigerator is old. I smell a bad smell when I open the freezer. What could be causing this problem? Model # for...

Some piece of rotten food stuck in the filter system.
Try replacing the air an water filters.
You can also make deep clean...
  1. Take all the things out of the fridge
  2. unplug it and clean everything inside
  3. Leave it like that with the doors opened for 3 days
  4. plug it back

Awful smell and taste to water boiled in a stainless steel kettl

I have the same problem. Noticed it was in two different pots. The comment number one must be correct because I only use VERY high alkaline water to boil my foods. I had a feeling it was my water. So interesting! I will clean it w white vinegar and see if the smell goes away. SAME weird chemical smell- turns your stomach.

Fridge has chemical smell

The smells are being pulled in through the air intake from the fridge from the chemicals they used on the floor. As the coating cures, the odor will end. As for the damage to your food and drinks? I would assume if the food tastes like the chemicals, I would avoid eatting them if you do not like the taste )

Ice and Refrigerator and Freezer smell like alcohol chemical

I believe that you might have a coolant leak causing the chemical odor. You really should get it checked out by a fridge repair-person because it's not healthy to breathe in the fumes.
