Question about GE Profile PSS26NGS Side by Side Refrigerator

GE Profile PSS26PSTA SS freezer problem

Our freezer is not freezing on the top shelf, but all of the other shelves seem to be freezing fine. Also water drips down the left side of the freezer wall and looks to be coming from the ice maker. Ice cubes are not dry and solid, they are wet and shiny and become one big ice block.

How long is the GE warranty on the GE Profile units?

ALSO, water is VERY slow coming out of the freezer door dispenser

Thank You

Forget the warranty - it is only for the compressor and that is usually five years. Did you check for freezer temp - wet cubes indicates too warm up there. Water dispenser lines may be clogged.

If low temps you may have low refrigerant or a defrost mechanism not working - if not working there should be ice buildup on line entering the evaporator in back of compartment.

SOURCE: GE Profile side by side fridge - water dispenser doesn't work

More than likely, your water line is freezing up in the door. You can remove all of the ice cubes and lower the freezer temp to about 3. Leave the freezer door open for about 5 minutes or so and if this does not work, leave the door open a little longer. Also, disconnect the water line at the base of the freezer door, near the floor, and press the dispenser lever. If you have water there, you most likely have a frozen line in the door. Changing the water filter often will help but it is not the answer and is can get quite expensive. By the way, Make sure to hold the dispenser lever forward for at least a couple of minutes each time you test for water flow. If you do not get water at the connector at the base of the door after you have disconnected the line, you have a problem with the valve in the back of the refrigerator.

SOURCE: PSS26PSTA SS - Only dispenses crushed ice.

Remove the ice dispenser bucket. You will see a square hole at the back wall with a horizontal rod in it. You should be able to move it up and down with you fingers. If not, it may just be frozen. Warm it with a hair blower and try again. If still no luck, the WR62X58 dispenser solenoid may be burnt out / melted and need to be replaced. It is attached to the metal just above and behind that square hole. The removable tray at the bottom of the dispenser recess is a part number WR17X12133 for a PSS26PSTA SS. Contact any GE servicing dealer or general appliance servicer near you to get one. You can get parts direct from GE also, but the won't be any cheaper, and you may pay more shipping and handling.

SOURCE: Bosch Side by Side, top shelves dont freeze food, bottom does

majority of refrigerators today are equipped with an automatic icemaker. The water valve supplying the icemaker is a key component of the icemaking system, and it should be the first thing you check if the icemaker's performance is erratic or if the icemaker stops working. When the icemaker calls for ice, its switch closes an electrical circuit and energizes the solenoid-operated water valve. This allows water to flow through the valve and into the ice cube tray. The water is frozen into cubes, and the cubes are dumped into the ice bin. As time passes, strange things may happen to the refrigerator's icemaking capability. The cubes may be small or there may be a solid chunk of ice instead of individual cubes. It's also possible that the icemaker will stop working. These are all signs of a malfunctioning water valve. The valve is equipped with a screen on its inlet to remove minerals and sediments in the water supply. Over time, minerals and sediment build up on the screen and restrict flow through the valve, or even block it completely. Minerals that make it through the screen can cause the valve to stick in the open position, overfilling the ice cube tray in the process. This is a common problem in areas with hard water, but it can happen just about anywhere. Another malfunction that will cause the icemaker to stop working is a break in the solenoid coil winding. This is known as an open coil. The coil winding generates a magnetic field as current passes through it, and this magnetic field opens the plunger valve that controls water flow. A break in the coil winding stops current flow and this prevents the valve from operating. Test And Inspect The icemaker's valve is easy to inspect and test. First, gently pull the refrigerator away from the wall, and unplug it. Turn off the water supply to the icemaker by closing the shut-off valve in the copper waterline leading to the valve (Fig. 1). Use a screwdriver or nutdriver to remove the rear lower access panel from the refrigerator's back. Next, remove the fill tubing from the water valve. Use a wrench to loosen the flare nut on the brass fitting on the inlet side of the valve (above). Place a container under the valve to catch the small amount of water that will spill from the valve and tubing. Now use a screwdriver or a nutdriver to remove the screw holding the valve's mounting bracket to the refrigerator cabinet (Fig. 2). Pull the valve out of the compartment and remove the tube on the valve's outlet. Then, remove the solenoid's electrical contacts (Fig. 3).

Freezer shelf issue, roller adjustment, Icemaker problems

There is not a recall per say on this issue but there is what's called a training bulletin.. The cabinet tends to spread out causing the shelves to fall out typically in the middle. Some models have wider shelves that will not fall out but also can not be pulled out due to the recess in the sides of the inside of the cabinet. The other fix is installing a little c clip on the sides of the trouble shelf in hopes that it will stop it from falling out. part # is WB4X174 and I have not had good results with them but it is a cheap fix. 2 per side are needed. Ge would have to be contacted to see if wider shelves are available but they are very expensive!

This link might help you troubleshoot
Freezer Frost inside Symptom Diagnosis Sears PartsDirect

The lucky solution is if the door seal or inner plastic liner need to be placed/repaired (this lets warmer air into the freezer causing frost and poor cooling).
But you can also see from the link that your symptoms could be caused by other electronic related things...more of a challenge to fix...

How old is this frig? If it is older that 12-15 years, get a new one. Make sure there is not blockage to keep the air from circulating properly. The vent from the freezer to the cooler should also be free from blockage as well.

Freezer Shelves are too small for freezer and keep falling when I put food on them...

I had the same problem with the freezer sheles being too small in my GE Profile side by side. The shelves would simply collapse down with any weight on them.
After measurng the gap, I determined that the shelves were approximately 7/16" too narrow.
The fix I did was simple, effective, and very cheap.
I bought a roll of clear flexible polyethylene tubing at Lowes for about $5.The tubing is 3/8" outer diameter, 1/4" inner diameter (see picture below).
I cut pieces to fit along the side rails of the shelf, and then sliced the tube pieces down their length with a utility knife. I wrapped the pieces around the outside rails on each side of the shelf. It took a little work, but I got the tube pieces attached.
In a few spots, I did a double wrap of tubing.
The shelves fit tightly now and can hold significant weight without collapsing. Plus, they don't look too bad.
I hope GE fixes this simple problem in the future.
