Is the choke staying on perhaps? check spark and plug check airflow, get compression test maybe the oil/compression rings giving way... sounds like its getting hot and increasing fuel flow for some reason??? perhaps clean carb with some cleaner while running (remove air cleaner) spray directly into carby while running run at full throttle as you spray it will try and die ... relax on the spraying and see how it goes.. check air cleaner for blockages as the same time :) hope you get it working!

SOURCE: oil in air breather

sounds like you have too much oil in the engine (should normally be around 500-600ml when there is too much oil, it gets past the piston rings and pushes it through to the head.

SOURCE: engine will not start. there is oil in the air

I would start by draining the old gas out of the tank and filling with fresh gas. Replace the spark plug.

SOURCE: carb is getting clogged and spark plugs fouling

Carburetor cleaner will ruin the rings and do that.

SOURCE: Briggs and Stratton Vanguard 23Hp starter issues

The starter may need shims between the engine and starter to permit the relative gears to release. Compare the two starters, if you still have the old one, for shaft length and bendix construction. Hope this helps!

Engine not running smooth until blade is activated

ill bet this is an older briggs engine ? as they seem to need a little tlc on there governor speed control spring for it's feedback to the throttle , this makes the engine surge a bit (hunting) till a load is placed on it then it runs smooth , now if it doesn't smooth out under load id suspect a carb fuel flow problem

Briggs & Stratton engine model # 4455770435E1, need to find out what part number to order to fix alternator? Told our "stater" was bad?

The alternator (P/N 592831) should put out around13-14 volts DC with no load (other than charging the battery. If the voltage drops only when the deck is engaged but not when the lights are on it could be a connection to the mower clutch causing excessive current draw. I suggest covering the fundamentals such as ensure the battery is healthy, ensure all connections are clean and tight before condemning the stator. then and only then would I remove the flywheel to inspect the stator.

Give me a diagram of a 3.5 briggs-stratton push mower

If your lawn mower has no throttle lever, it is most likely the throttle spring. it is too tight or too loose, you will have to *play* with it to get it right, or even replace the spring. hope this works..

Engine runs fine than after about 10 min it starts to surge and than quits will start up after a short cool down but does the same in a short time Frank

This seems to work a lot.
As the engine starts to surge, loosen the fuel cap.
If the engine runs smoothly again, clean the vent holes on the cap.
Good Luck.

Briggs & Stratton Poulon Pro 600 Series Cuts Out After a Min

Water in the carb bowl. Primer charge is gas...what the main jet draws is water! Tipping backwards lets the water move away from main jet pickup and clean fuel to enter engine.

Drain the tank. Then the carb and fuel line. Then check your gas can for watery fuel. *(dump it into a large plastic bowl and look to see if there is a layer of water on the bottom. If you shake up the fuel before you pour it off you will see cloudy liquid if there is water in it).

That should do it.

Lawn mower; when I engage the mower the battery discharges and the engine boggs down

It sounds like you have some kind of short that gets 'activated' when you engage the mower. Check your wiring around the moving parts.
