Hi,

Depending on the Supervisor Module model, most likely it's a standard Cisco's "password recovery procedure":

Connect to the console
Reboot the switch (power cycle)
Start pressing Ctrl-C till you get to the BOOTROM
Change boot configuration register to 0x2142 (confreg 0x2142)
Boot the switch. It will ignore confuguration and boot "empty".
Go to "enable mode".
Copy startup configuration to running configuration ("copy start run")
Change boot register back to 0x2102 (conf t -> conf 0x2102)
Write config (write mem)
Reboot

Greetings i am using a cisco adsl 2 wireless modem router,what do i need to get to upgrade from a 4 port TRENDnet TE100-S55E switch to a 12 port TRENDnet patch panel,I need advice on what type of chal

Keep your 4-port and just purchase a netgear or linksys 8-port switch. This will increase your port count to 12, but you burn two ports on uplinking. If you need more ports, just get a 16-port switch then. I believe this will be the most cost effective solution.

That's not a valid IP address.
If you mean a network 20.1.10.x, then in a 24 bit subnet it would work just the same as a 192.168.1.x network. But you're using a public IP subnet.

How to reboot a cisco router?

From the privileged mode that is the # prompt type reload it will reload the router.

Router# reload

Please save your configuration otherwise it will be lost. Use the following command to save your running configuration.

Router# copy running-config startup-config

You have a number of options, depending on whether you also require PoE or stackability, and specifically what optical connections you require. There are many, many options, depending on the specifics of your need. Recovering Cisco IOS Software images If your Cisco router experiences difficulties and no longer contains avalid Cisco IOS software image in flash memory, you can download a newCisco IOS image using one of the following ROM monitor commands:
•

xmodem—(AllCisco 2600 series routers) Use this command to copy a Cisco IOS imagefrom the console, if the computer attached to your console has aterminal emulator with Xmodem capability. See the "Copying an Image from the Console Using the xmodem Command" procedure.

Note

Downloadinga Cisco IOS image from a console is very slow. This procedure should beused only in an emergency and is not recommended for normal Cisco IOSimage upgrades.

For the fastest possible download from a console, set the console speed to 115200 bps by using the confreg ROM monitor command. See the "Configuration Register Commands" procedure.

tftpdnld—(ExceptCisco 2691) Use this command to copy a Cisco IOS image from a TFTPserver that is accessible through the FastEthernet 0/0, Ethernet 0/0,or Token Ring 0/0 port. See the "Copying an Image from a TFTP Server Using the tftpdnld Command" procedure.

Note

Thetftpdnld command is not available on the Cisco 2691 router. Therecommended method for installing a Cisco IOS image on a Cisco 2691router is from a CompactFlash memory card loaded in the externalCompactFlash memory card slot. See the "Entering Boot Commands" procedure.

%SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag 0 The switch generates %SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag 0… messages.
This example shows the syslog output that you see when this error occurs:
%SYS-4-P2_WARN: 1/Tag [dec] on packet from [ether] port [chars],
but port's native vlan is [dec] This message indicates that an 802.1Q-tagged packet was received on a nontrunk port. The VLAN that is derived from the packet tag is different from the port native VLAN. In the error message:

The Tag [dec] is the VLAN identifier from the packet.
The [ether] is the host MAC address.
The port [chars] is the port identifier.
The second [dec] is the native VLAN number.

There is a possibility that the local port is incorrectly configured as an access port instead of a trunk port. Alternately, the remote side can have been configured as a trunk port instead of an access port.
Verify that the local port is not incorrectly configured as an access port instead of a trunk port. Also, verify that the remote side is not configured as a trunk port instead of an access port.

How to reset the cisco switch to factory default?

When you say you were able to connect to the switch through hyperterm, were you able to login with the enable password? If not, you cannot reset the factory defaults without the enable password. If you do not have this then search on Cisco's site for password recovery for your model switch. If you did login with the enable password, the command to run for CATos is "clear config all". For Cisco IOS, you have the right command with "write erase". When you issue that command, do you get a "Erase of nvram: complete " or an error? Are you issuing the "reload" command after a successful erase? Be sure you answer No when it asks "System configuration has been modified. Save? [yes/no]:" as sometimes this seems misleading and some people think they mean to save the reloaded default. They are really warning you that you are about to loose the old configuration and attempting to prevent you from accidently erasing it. So answer "no". After a successful reload of the IOS you should also clear any VLAN information. To do this, issue "delete flash:vlan.dat" and then do another "reload".
