Firstly check out if the Printer/Scanner driver is install and displayed in My Computer list. If not get the driver CD which comes with the printer or if it is lost download from the website by providing the printer model. Once all is done, click the scanner/printer icon and scan the document and saved it to one of your folder.
Currently, the scanner is trying to pick up documents already saved in the computer.
You'll need to scan the document with an OCR software package (Optical character recognition) that will recognize the letters themselves and transmit them to word processing application, such as Word for Windows. Most scanner packages come with some form of OCR utility, so check your installed software. You may already be set up! Best of luck,William
you may have to check if the appropriate driver for your printer is installed in your computer. Please find the following link for the driver, please double check, the driver should be according to your operating system.
I found an Windows XP driver here: http://www.mercury-pc.com/download_file.php?option=file&item_id=2870. The documentation for the Mercury KOB 1200cu+ scanner indicates support for Win 98se/Me/2000/XP. On a newer Windows OS, it may not work but you can try and see if a generic scanner driver installs when you plug it into the computer. If it is recognized, scan using Windows Fax and Scan (File, Import from Scanner) or Paint (Import from Camera or Scanner).
If you have a BenQ Scan to Web 3300U, just plug in the scanner to your USB port on the computer and plug the power into the power bar. XP will recognize that you have connected the scanner to your pc. It will install the scanner immediately.. Go to MY PICTURES. The top option on the left hand side of the screen will be "to obtain pictures from a scanner or a camera". Click on this.. It will tell you that you have a flatbed#23 . Click on next. Using the preview button, scan the document. Using your mouse, make the scan box fit your picture or document. Then click on scan. Save your scan job . You can then view your scan job.

> If you have a windows system you might try using "MS PAINT" its a windows based application.
Click on Start / All Programs / Accessories., and look for "Paint" ( click on it ) on the Paint Window click on File and then click on From Scanner or Camera., just follow the step by step instructions how to acquire / scan an image/doc's from your scanner. ( in some cases it will ask you which scanner to use if you have multiple imaging devices connected t your computer )
note :> if the "From Scanner or Camera" is graded out ( your scanner is not detected by your computer or it needs a twain driver to be recognized by your computer )
My Photosmart 2575 v has worked fine as well for over a year and now it won't scan. I get the same message: "Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot". I ran all updates and they said I have them all and everything is working perfectly. It's not though. I still can't scan. I tried their work-around by opening paint and then acquring image from the scanner but that does not work either.
