Hitachi dz mv230a DVD CAM - can't copy video to computer (WXP Pro)

I want to copy video from my DVD CAM to my computer for editing.

I have installed the USB driver from CD from Hitachi. When I plug the USB from camera into my computer it reports "Disk Access" on the camera but then shuts off and does not show as a device in My Computer.

I am looking at the menu and do not know how to put the camera in transfer mode.

How can I copy from memory card to computer?

  • coschroe May 18, 2008

If I finalize the disk before putting it into my computer will I still be able to reuse the disk in my camera?

  • coschroe May 19, 2008

Now that I have finalized a DVD-R disk the camera with that disk show up in MY COMPUTER. I do not see any files on the disk with the extension .vro. Should I?

Hi Boss,
here is your complete solution for your dvd cam
You will need pc drivers in order to use dvd cam
Download from the link below

Use the link below to download the manual or guide which help you in transfering data from dvd to pc

Guide for transfering data to pc

Utilizing a USB computer connection and Hitachi's optional PC Editing Kit Software (DZ-WINPC3W), the DVD camcorders become external DVD home movie drives. Video can be transferred from the DVD camcorder to the PC for editing. After editing, the video can be transferred back to the DVD camcorder and recorded. This is where the strength of Hitachi's multi-format DVD camcorders gives consumers an unprecedented capability: 1. Record video utilizing the rewrite-able DVD-RAM format
2. Transfer the footage to the PC
3. Edit the footage on the PC
4. Transfer the footage back to the DVD camcorder and record it onto DVD-R for compatibility with most DVD players
Or if available, the video can be transferred by placing the disc into a PC's 4.7G byte DVD-RAM or DVD-ROM3 drive.

Editing steps to note:

Getting your Hitachi DVD ram vro to video cd or dvd! *note just changing the vro file to mpg does not work, what happens is you only see the 1st segment of your recordings. I went through insane amounts of hell figuring all of this out. The below method to my knowledge is the only way to do it without going insane!

Only Two Programs Needed:

Basic steps are here, let me know if you need more detail:

-Copy your .vro file to your hard drive
-open dvd2avi
-load the vro file directly into dvd2avi
-do a save project (that will create 2 small files)
-close dvd2avi, you're done with it now
-now open tmpgenc
-load the video portion of your dvd2avi project (the d2v file)
-load your audio portion of your dvd2avi project (the other one)
-you're set! just output the file to svcd or whatever you like!
-need to edit the file? use tmpgenc mpeg tools and segment the clips you want, then merge them back together as 1 mpeg, it works great and no need for re-encoding!

if you still need more help regarding software for editing, here is the link
Thanks and Regard

If you are using re-writerable DVD then you can use it after finalizing otherwise you can't use it.

    • Video format used for streaming (real-time) recording of DVD discs; contains actual audio and video recordings; works with IFO files, which tell the DVD player where the VRO files are located.

    • VOB files are the files on a DVD that contain the actual video, audio, subtitles, and menus for the DVD. Video and Audio on a VOB file are compressed using MPEG-2.

I think you should also try for VOB files because it depends on your camera incoder that to which stream its making videos as per your settings.

The camera shouldn't turn off, it needs to stay on while connected or you will be unable to transfer anything.

Please check the pages 94 and forward in your manual

Here is the online version of the manual in pdf format

  • Ekse May 18, 2008

you should also be able to use the DVD in the camera in your computer if you have a DVD drive, you might need to finalize the disk in the camera first.

  • Ekse May 18, 2008

If your PC is compatible with the disc used, you can immediately use a disc removed from the cartridge

    or caddy on PC.

  • Ekse May 18, 2008

The PC connection cable does not supply power to the DVD video camera/recorder. Use the AC adapter to power the DVD video camera/recorder.

  • Ekse May 18, 2008

If you connect this DVD video camera/recorder

to PC, nothing will appear in the viewfinder

or on the LCD screen. The CHARGE/ACCESS indicator

will blink only while the disc is being

  • Ekse May 18, 2008

Only, if the disc is a RW - rewriteable. in R discs changes cant be reversed.

  • Ekse May 19, 2008

coschroe the format might be difrent from what the other guy said earlyer, what do you see on the disc?

I suppose you have a editing program that supports your camera?

Trying to transfer video to my computer (iMovie application) through the s-video port. Picture is perfect but sound does not transfer.

S-Video does not have sound, you will need to run separate audio cables to your sound cards input ports. S-Video is only for the video signal (Chroma and Luminance), there is no provision for sound.

Hitachi mini dvd cam will not eject disc, will not read, will not write, will not record. Also cannot read mini disc on Windows Vista, is there a driver for either of these issues?

This has happened to me many times. The disk has an error (they alway do).

1: Turn it off.
2: Attatch power connection.
3: Hold down eject button.
4: It should say: "DISK ACCESS"
5: It may take a long time, but put it down in this state and leave it for as long as it may take.
6: Later on, it will eject the disk.
7: Discard of this disk, it's nothing but trouble.

Hitachi MV550e camcorder with vista

I have installed my 350e with the WinXP drivers on my Vista box. After install went ok, the DVD-Cam drive came up under my computer.

Copied the video file across to the desktop and changed the extension to MPG.

Plays fine in WMP, should be able to edit ok with Vegas or smilir I guess.

At least I can download from the camera disks and archive now. :)
