Question about Denon AVR-1802 Receiver

1 Answer

Digital audio cuts out.

I had my Denon 1802 connected to a dish network HD box. The National Geo. channel sound came in short spurts. All other channels OK. I switched to cable TV using a Motorola HD box. Same problem, same channel, all others work fine. The sound is fine from the TV speakers and the Denon works OK if I switch off the Dolby Digital.

My 1802 produces tiny "bursts" of Dolby Digital 5.1 on Foxtel HD satellite channels in Australia. It did the same with the Pearl Harbour DVD.

I have this problem on an AVR-1802 in Australia on all TV shows with DD5.1 tracks. Demo loop on Channel 70 used to work ok and Channel 90 used to be ok until "9" changed something. Getting this problem through two different DTV sources (TV and STB), one using optical and the other with coax SPDIF inputs. It seems that the Amp keeps switching between Pro-Logic and Dolby Digital formats. Advertisement audio comes through fine as Pro-Logic audio though.

I have had this same problem with various channels. Right now it is affecting 5-10 on my Verizon FiOS HD stations. Nat Geo is definitely one of them. Fox News & Business are two others.

I have the same problem on 4 specific HDTV channels (via Explorer 8300HD). All other HDTV channels are fine. Problem is the same using coax or optical digital inputs. I have swapped out the Explorer 8300HD, same problem. Cable provider has been on site and advise all is fine with their equipment and signals, but are certainly puzzled as to why on 4 specific channels. DVD and BlueRay work fine.

On Nat-Geo, VS, FSN, Palladium the DD cuts out and is unwatchable, If I switch over to "virtual" the sound comes through fine. VS and Palladium were fine until roughly 3-4 months ago. All other DD sound channels are fine. I called Denon they said cable box problem, Comcast said all is well, it's a receiver problem.

I have same DD 5.1 tiny "bursts" problem with satellite HD channel. It is probably problem with Crystal DSP (German site):

Denon offers solution for ex flag problem with the models to AVR-1602
    and AVR-1802.

    That the Denon AV-receiver AVR-1802 and AVR-1602 with a DD 5.1EX-Flag
the provided clay-purely of " Atlantis" and " Master of the Ringe" not
to play, is a specific problem of one-certain revision of the Crystal
DSPs. This chip is used among other things also in some Kenwood and Onkyo Modells. Since there are different revisions blocked by this Crystal chip, by
which however only a certain is affected, the two films on the largest
part of the sold AV-receivers without difficulties will run.
Denon offers now for all customers concerned, who acquired its
equipment with-German authorized specialized trade, a free
modification. The equipment must be specialist dealer-delivered with
the appropriate with the reference to the gentleman the ring and/or
Atlantis problem. Momentarily only a limited number of DSPs is available - Denon hopes that a larger contingent arrives at short notice.
Denon asks hence the customers friendly for understanding that all
devices concerned cannot be reequipped at one time and immediately.

I have the denon avr-3803, i am trying to wire my dish network box to it, and due to so many slots on the back of the denon, i cannot figure out where to put the red, white, and yellow cables...can anyone...

Relax, there are a lot of duplicate functions on the back with labels that are just for guidance. Choose one function and connect it according to the manual. If you look closer at the back of the Dish Network box I'm sure you'll find digital audio and something better than the composite (white) cable for video.

How i conecct my receiver to the dish hdtv

First find out if your Dish HD box has an optical or coaxial digital audio out.
Connect this digital out to to the Denon's optical or coaxial input. On the back of the receiver the digital inputs are labeled as DVD or CD/CBL . Remember to select the front input selector of the Receiver according to what ever input you have connected your HD box.
On all TV channels your 5.1 speakers may not work. You can make them work by choosing some of the DSP functions on the Denon remote. Just press the surround button and select Dolby Pro Logic II movies / music. This will convert 2 channel audio to 5.1.

I am trying to use my Denon AVR-1802 to connect my cable box to my TV. The problem is that I don't have any speakers connected to the 1802, I just want to route the cable box's video and audio to the TV...

connect your analog output from the cablebox to the receiver md/tape in. then connect your tv audio input to the md/tape out of the receiver. or you could just pass it straight from the box to the tv, bypassing the receiver altogether.

No dish network sound through denon 1609 receiver

check the setting for the HDMI connection at the Denon you may have to assign the HDMI audio setting also on the front of the Denon while in the DVR mode press the input mode button on the front of the Denon to select auto and if that doesn;t give you sound you will have to connect a cable from the DVR optical.coaxial or analog audio output to the Denon and setup for that type of audio connection

Ittermittent digital audio drop out on some channels

Did the issue ever get resolved. I have similar issues with a connection to Cox Cable HDTV and Onkyo TX-DX989. All sources (DVD Player) sound fine and not issues except channels 706 and 710 on Cox Digital receiver. I had Cox replace the HDTV receiver and the same issue occurs. I've tried optical audio and also the COAX audio ports with the same issue. The workaround I have found is to set the audio to "Other" on the Cox box, but the volume then has to be turned up quite a bit.

Sound cuts out

This sounds to me as an issue not with your AVR but with your cable unit. I have seen this where there is a sample rate issue with the cable boxes. I would try to get another cable box, and see if the issue persists.
