Question about Acomdata 1TB Puredrive USB Esata 1 TB Hard Drive

1 Answer

I have been storing data on this hard drive without a problem for over a year with the same computer. Yesterday, the red light keeps flashing and I get a message that I need to format my drive before I can use it! (I did not re-format it) Then I tried connecting it to another computer but it did the same thing? Is my data still there and can I get it back? Thanks!

Logic board is toast. And if drive cannot be recognized it is very difficult to retrieve data! Need Pros at great expense.

Try a new enclosure, the case is just that. A hard drive cannot actually repaired. You cant open it and fix it. It's either reliable and functioning or not. Purchase a new enclosure and test the old drive. Data recovery should be the last option..most places charge a down payment on a car, and most of the time ( in my 12 years ) its the cheap enclosure.

Keep me posted.

i just had this issue. I took a small phillips screw driver out and removed the seagate hard drive from its enclosure. I brought the hard drive to a microcenter to verify if the hard was dead or something in the case. The hard drive was fine. I purchased a $15.00 inland 2.o to IDE/ SATA adapter from microcenter. This let me use my drive as I did before. All of my data that was on the drive is still there.

Yes there are. The first thing I'd say to you is you may want to involve a professional if the disc contains critical information because they would have experiance and tools you don't. If it's not that critical and you want to give it a shot you can run a file system check on the volume or run a program like spinrite www.spinrite.com

You can run a data recovery app on the drive and attempt to pull off any data still accessible. I recommend the GetDataBack Data Recovery apps from http://www.runtime.org . Get the one for the file system on your thumb drive and give it a try. These apps have recovered data from "dead" drives for me more times than I can count.

The data is still on the disk but can you get it is the issue.
If the logic board is still good and the drive is recognized by bios that it is do able. But if the drive is not recognized, you may need some recovery service. If you really want your data, don't format since that erases all and makes a recovery operation even more difficult and expensive.

Bottom line - it is always prudent to have backups of backups for obvious reasons..

If this is an external drive remove it from the shell and connect it directly to computer. Might be the electronics in the shell that have gone bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try the flash drive in another computer to see if it works.
If it doesn't work, format the flash drive, you will lose the data stored on the flash drive.

Removing the flash drive without using the Safely Remove Hardware icon can corrupt a flash drive and render it useless. You maybe able to restore it by formating the flash drive but it will delete the data stored on the flash drive.
You maybe be able to use this program to recover the data and restore the flash drive.

Flash drive repair

Not much I'm afraid. Sounds like it's dead, happens with thumbdrives sometimes, especially if you pull it out without stopping it or ejecting it properly first. I've heard of software that can try to recover files from corrupted thumdrives but if it's not working electronicaly with the computer it's useless. A data recovery service my be able to access the flash chip on the drive directly but this would cost a lot I'm sure.
