Question about Garmin Edge 705 Handheld GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Sorry but honestly...Since GARMIN launch the EDGE this problem is still not resolved by them. The EDGE 305 had the same problems. Just search the www and you will see. My 705 died on me after just 2 months.....Maybe better without it than having a unit dying on you while out on a ride. Tired visiting agents to replace EDGE units. When will GARMIN be able to fix this ????

Edge 205 or 305 or 705 or 605 often crash, then impossible to power on again.

Here is the way to reset the Garmin edge :

Soft reset : hold mode and lap/reset buttons for 10 seconds
Hard reset : device should be powered down, hold start and mode buttons for 3 seconds then pulse press the lap/reset button.

After soft reset, you need to hold start button for up to 10 secs before it starts.

After hard reset, you will loose all your data, including profiles.

My edge 305 turns off intermittantly during rides and is not mapping the routes I ride completely

This is internal problem due to contacts that are getting dirty or spaced because of too much pressure on the USB port.

Better way is to unmount the device and solder wires in place of gold contacts.

Unmounting device is not easy, see following link

My garmin 305 edge won't turn on. I had it for about 2 years.

I "over charged" my Garmin one time and it wouldn't turn on. There is a way to reset it so it works, but right off hand I can't remember how to do it. I have an email in to tech support. Let you kmow what I hear.

My garmin edge 305 freezes up during the ride on occasion. the distance and elevation numbers just stop changing, while I'm still riding. thanks

OK, There is a battery problem where the contacts become loose within the unit, i opened mine and followed the instructions i got on this site...MTB gurublog If you decide to do so..however if the 305 is in warranty contact garmin.com and ask for new unit... they accept the problem is widespread.

I have an edge 305 and use it mountain biking. O rough trails it shuts down. I think it's a loose conection inside the unit. When I stop it will turn right back on.

It is a connection problem inside the device. If it is under warranty you should send back to garmin, otherwise you can apply trick as described at following site :

Garmin 305 Edge and GSC 10 not receiving one another

Solution copied from Garmin

Pairing the Edge 305 and sensors
Once you have installed the Garmin Edge 305 and the cadence sensor they need to be paired. As they communicate wirelessly with each other the Edge needs to connect to each sensor before it can receive input from it.

The initial pairing needs to be done away from other wireless systems this allows the Edge to pick up the sensors it is supposed to be monitoring. This is a little like black magic, but it seems to work quite easily.

The cadence sensor has a small press contact which puts the sensor into pairing mode. The HRM just seemed to connect by itself.

Subsequent pairing is much faster as the Edge 305 seems to remember which sensors it is paired with. If you have problems or need to change one of the sensors then you can use a setup feature to either turn the sensor off or to re-pair it.
