Ipod nano to Mac

I just got an ipod and it says I need to have at least a system 10.4.8 for my mac, I only have 10.3.9 and so my ipod won't work. How do I upgrade my mac or in other ways get my ipod to connect to the computer?

Hey ninibini,

The primary difference between Mac operating system (O/S) version 10.4.8 (Tiger) and 10.3.9 (Panther) is that they are different "reference releases," more commonly called "upgrades." Because upgrades are viewed as major changes in how any software program looks and functions, they are often sold independently in shrink-wrapped packages through local retailers. Updates however, generally only provide fixes to minor problems or cosmetic appearances. This unfortunately means that using the automatic O/S update feature available online will not update your O/S to 10.4.8, and that you may need to purchase the latest O/S available in order to connect your iPod to this computer.

For more information, I would strongly suggest checking out the following articles available through Apple's online support database:

I have the latest iPod Touch and an old G4 Mac how do i update iTunes on Mac? Is this possible?

I am afraid the latest iTunes version will not run in your G4, also it is not possible to upgrade your G4 to one of the supporting operating system versions.

Mac 0sx 10.5.8

The disk might not have a working OS on it.

It you have successfully run the disk utility the disk probably in full working order. I think that the OS on the disk is either missing, corrupt or not compatible with the computer you are running it on.

Why wont Mac drive boot after upgrading itunes

Did you upgrade coincidentally the PC upgrade or the Mac upgrade check that out to make sure? Remove the IPod or the device before starting your computer again then plug in the device. It may also be upgrading and you did not complete the upgrade. Could this be possible if so re-download I Tunes again completely be sure to remove I Tunes first then go and download I Tunes again. This may solve the matter. I hope this gave you some relief John

My ipod touch freezes while restoring in itunes. I first upgraded itunes to itune 10. Then I tried to restore. It just freezes 1 minute into the restore. Now what??

Thanks for contacting Fixya Support, I am glad to assist.

I cases where your iPod Touch is freezing, especially during a restore , there could be a variable of issues which may be causing this issue to occur.

If you have previously installed any 3rd party plug-ins for your iTunes prior to your iTunes 10 upgrade, that can potentially affect the functionality of your iTunes with the newer iTunes version 10.

Apple recommends troubleshooting such an issue by first removing those iTunes 3rd party plug-ins as well as the preference files for iTunes.

Not sure what version of operating system you are using, Win7/Vista/XP or Mac OS X, but to help you isolate (and possibly eliminate) these potentially problematic files, here is a complete workthrough process from Apple address several issues including the inability to complete a function such as a restore.

Try the various steps in this Apple knowledge page and see if that helps resolve your restore issue. If it does not, simply reply back to this post.

Ihave downloaded Itunes but my Ipodtouch still does not work qhat should i do

Depends on what version of iTunes you have. What exactly doesn't it do? Does it not charge, does it not sync files? Does iTunes not mount it? Does it mount on your Mac/Windows operating system?
You may want to check what firmware you are using as some of the features in the newer iTunes program will not work with the older iPods until you upgrade the firmware.

Cannot get Ipod Nano to appear in the source panel

The newer iPod nano requires iTunes 7 or later, which unfortunately requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later. You must upgrade your operating system to install iTunes so you can use your iPod with it.
