Question about Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U Plasma TV

Open Question

Panasonic TH-42PX80U. I had lightning strike close to house. Now TV doesn't have picture or sound but power light stays on a solid red. I hear occasionally a clicking sound light you get when you turn the TV on. Opened back, no apparent fuses to change. It does appear that when I power on the TV the screen has is very faintly lit. Thanks.

You are missing 15volts. If this is a new TV, it could be as simple as a plug not fully seated on the power supply. Regardless, the repair should be covered by warranty and Panasonic is one of the best when it comes to taking care of the customer. Ifd nI can be of further assistance, let me know

Please unplug it for about an hour and try again. If it still does not work, then you will have to do some troubleshooting.

You are better off replacing the power supply board. Usually the mother board will output a power ok signal to turn on the TV only when the power supply is working correctly (all voltages are within specs), similar to a computer, having said so, if you have the schematics you can verify those voltages being output from the power supply upon depressing the power button. The +5v stand by voltage is most likely ok, since the mother board is at least providing you with the blinking light. It is the +12V and +24V which are not being output, along with any other auxiliary voltages. I would suggest either having a replacement board (power PCB) installed or otherwise feeding the needed voltages by substituting those missing ones with a variable DC power supply, just to verify it. Follow above only if familiar with electronics and electricity. safety first!.

I have a TH-42PX80U. The picture went black and the red light does NOT blink. I tried a different power cord in a different outlet and still won't turn on.

More likely to have power supply module failure, that will be the first place to look.
Most common failures in PLASMA TV are due to bad power supply module, Z and Y Sustain modules.

Cant load channel sound but no picture

First reset it to factory default: While pressing [VOLUME ( - )] button on the TV, press [MENU] button of the remote control 2 seconds, the self check screen will appear, then Unplug Power to reset.
If doesn’t work, update the software, if still not work, let me know.
