It sounds like your belt is slipping. Yes, just like on a car! Bread machines use a belt drive and yours is probably slipping. Your choices are to replace the belt, or replace your breadmaker in my opinion. You might want to take the bottom panel off and look at your belt and see if there is anything obvious that you can correct. If you do that be sure it is unplugged.

How long should bread knead in the machine

Depends on the texture you are looking for. Typically a machine has a pre-set program that kneads a certain time and shuts off. If you are using a recipe that is a bread that you make by hand, you could use the machine to knead the bread and rise the first time, then punch it down, knead by hand and form a loaf and bake in oven.

Welbilt bread machine kneading wont start.making ticking sound

some bread machines warm the ingredients before any mixing starts. If your breamachine doesn't start mixing within 1/2 hour then you DO have a problem. Give it a half hour before you assume it is broken.

Can't get knead bar on West Bend automatic bread maker

Was the bar ever installed on your bread maker? Is this a replacement knead bar (paddle)?

While the machine is kneading it makes an awful grinding sound.It sounds like the paddle is not moving.If you lift the dough up the paddle moves freely.

It sounds like your belt is slipping. All bread machine operate off of an electric motor and drive belt and they do wear out.

I have a toastmaster Bread Box bread machine...I am making French bread...the banging noise was so loud I stopped it fearing the machine was broken...is it ? If not should I continue the kneading/baking...

Unless the sound is mechanical like metal on metal etc. what you may be hearing is the sound of the dough ball being knocked around and kneaded. Sometimes that gets pretty loud. While it is kneading go ahead and open the top and see if you think the dough ball is making the noise. If it seems to be coming from somwhere else then you may have a more serious problem. Is this a new noise or it this the first time you have used the machine?

Panasonic SD-YD205 Bread Maker: Paddle gets stuck then continues.

Hi,
Take the bread pan out of the machine and run a kneading cycle. If it is noisy with the pan out then you can take the belt off and try a kneading cycle again. If it's quiet, the yep it's the belt. If still noisy its a gear or the motor itself. If everything is quiet with the pan out then it's the pan itself. There is a sealed bearing in the pan that allows the paddle to spin. The seal on the bearing leaks oil and the bearing either freezes or does not let the paddle spin freely. There is no replacement for the sealed bearing ..and a new pan is needed. Good Luck Hank

The kneading paddle won;

I have found it necessary to periodically remove the shaft from the pans of breadmakers and clean off the carbon that is "coked" grease. I polish the shaft with crocus cloth and clean out the bearing. Often one has to remove a "C" clip to dis-assemble the shaft from the pan.

After cleaning I relube it with FOODSAFE grease before re-assembly.
