There is a contrast parameter in the "Parameters" -> System -> Display

You can increase it. Otherwise you may use backlight by short press on start button. duration of backlight also tuned on the same menu.

SOURCE: where can i get a new screen for my 305 edge

Hi Gary,

Your best bet on this would be to allow Garmin to handle it. These devices are so small and require steady hands and precision tools to perform the repair work. I checked out Garmin's site for "Out of Warranty" repair rates (even if under warranty - it wouldn't covered for the kind of accident it suffered), and the good news is: for just $79, it will be either be repaired or replaced with a factory "Newly-Overhauled" 305 GPS. It will also be updated with the latest software and come with a 90 day warranty.

You can arrange for this repair completely online by following the instructions on this page:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/outofwarranty.html

I hope this helps & good luck!

How to reset your Garmin Edge 205 or 305

Edge 205 or 305 often crash, then impossible to power on again.

Here is the way to reset the Garmin edge :

Soft reset : hold mode and lap/reset buttons for 10 seconds
Hard reset : device should be powered down, hold start and mode buttons for 3 seconds then pulse press the lap/reset button.

After soft reset, you need to hold start button for up to 10 secs before it starts.

After hard reset, you will loose all your data, including profiles.

The edge 305 unit does not answer to hard and soft reset command

Just to be sure ...

After hard reset, you will loose all your data, including profiles

Now if this does not work, you should check battery. Does the device charge when plugged on PC ?
If it does not, either battery is out of order or the contacts inside the device re broken. This may happen if device is used in continuous vibrating environment like mountain bike.

Changing battery or fixing contacts issue is explained there :

Garmin edge 305 screen not on. went over some very rough roads and lost the screen. can hear beeps when i push some buttons but no screen. tried the soft and hard resets described by some w/o success.

Probably a bad contact inside then.

Be careful however to update the device and hard reset it once again before trying opening it.

If device under warranty please send back to Garmin, if you open oit warranty will end automatically.

If none of this is possible then try trick posted at following site :

If the option of working without GPS receiver enabled is turned off, then it may be a real damage.

Only thing is to check this option.
