It should be a "trickle" charge, i.e., just turn it on, and a small amount of current will be used to recharge the CMOS battery, in the same way that driving your car recharges your car's battery.

The CMOS battery in the EEE PC is not rechargeable. It is a small 3V lithium "button" cell, 1220 size, with leads attached.
When it dies, it must be replaced.

Asus Eee 1005HA hangs on boot

This works for my Asus Eee PC
1. Shut down and remove the battery.
2. Press the power button 10 times, next 1 minute pressing down.
3. Remove the memory and at the motherboard you'll see a clrrst (clear reset cmos..)
4. Short these 2 tiny pads by placing a tiny screw driver for 5 seconds, plug the power adapter and turn-on the switch, next wait at least for 3 seconds. Remove the power adapter.
5. Place back the battery and turn-on. You'll see the same screen (Logo of Asus) then patiently wait for at least 10 minutes or more. That's it.Good luck.

How do I access the CMOS Battery in a Asus EEPC100HA in order to replace it.

If memory serves the CMOS battery for the EEe PC 1005HA is under the Palm Rest in the front.

You have to remove several screws from the bottom side of the laptop, remove the Keyboard, Static shield, then the Palm Rest.

The CMOS battery is the usual watch type of battery, but has two wire soldered to it. (Black and Red), and is placed in a blue plastic 'bag'.
At the other end of the wires is a small white male plastic connector.
This connector plugs into the motherboard.

This shows a generic 'knock-off',

THAT is utterly ridiculous.

The battery is just a small watch style type of battery, with two wires soldered to it, that end in a connector.
The battery probably costs $2.

I suggest you take the battery out. See what the part number is on it, (CR2032?), and buy a new battery.
Go to a qualified computer repair shop, or car electronic stereo shop, and have them solder the wires from the old CMOS battery to the new one.

You may not want to try the soldering procedure, because it's a lithium battery. Excessive heat will make it go off like a bomb.

Here is the disassembly procedure to access the CMOS battery. This video is posted for accessing a wireless card module, (Also Harddrive),

Each time I start my eeepc 1005HA, time/date has gone. This sounds like a CMOS battery dead. I expect you give me what I must buy and how I can replace the battery. Thanks a lot.

you should change your cmos battery. the model is ML 1220. don't buy the CR 1220 because it is not rechargeable. I hope this helps. I also have the same problem with my asus eee pc 1005HA.
