Question about Garmin Edge 305 GPS Receiver

Used my garmin edge 305 today on the ride, it worked fine, powered off after the ride. Got home turned on to review my stats and then powered off and went to upload and wouldn't upload, so tried to turn it on. Now the unit won't power on.

Edge 205 or 305 often crash, then impossible to power on again.

Here is the way to reset the Garmin edge :

Soft reset : hold mode and lap/reset buttons for 10 seconds
Hard reset : device should be powered down, hold start and mode buttons for 3 seconds then pulse press the lap/reset button.

After soft reset, you need to hold start button for up to 10 secs before it starts.

After hard reset, you will loose all your data, including profiles.

This is internal problem due to contacts that are getting dirty or spaced because of too much pressure on the USB port.

Better way is to unmount the device and solder wires in place of gold contacts.

Normally with Garmin sat-navs you have to switch the on/off button off and hold for around 8 seconds to reset the device

Hi If you have the time and patience then log onto garmin and download the webupdater then join the garmin site and plug in your 305 garmin dashboard will update for you and possibly fix it, other than that you will have to send it to garmin, if its still in warranty, 75 dollars if its out of warranty nty

My garmin edge 305 freezes up during the ride on occasion. the distance and elevation numbers just stop changing, while I'm still riding. thanks
OK, There is a battery problem where the contacts become loose within the unit, i opened mine and followed the instructions i got on this site...MTB gurublog If you decide to do so..however if the 305 is in warranty contact garmin.com and ask for new unit... they accept the problem is widespread.

Edge 205 turning off through runs
There is a generic battery contact problem in the body of the gps, same in 305...this link will show you how to remedy it..MTBGurublog i have done it with my 305 and now do not have the shutdown anymore.... But, before you perform surgery try a full reboot... turn unit off then press mode and power together... unit will ask if you want to delete data..select yes and then manually insert all data again

This is a generic problem with the 205 and the 305 go to MTBGurublog and look up 305 problems there is a blog that shows how to open and fix it

Edge 305 shuts off during a short 1 hour ride
I have the same problem. When I contacted Garmin they quickly diagnosed that my battery disconnects as a result of vibrations (like the ones you feel on your handlebars). Since I purchased this device over a year ago, their solution was for me to send it to them and pay $100 to get it fixed. Now one of the guys I ride with is having the same problem. I am very disatisfied with the Garmin 305's reliability. I'm not giving Garmin any more cash. (I paid $350 for this GPS 18 months ago!)

Does anyone know how to open the 305 so I can resecure the battery?
