Where would I find a bowl lift replacement mechanism for a kitchenaid 5 qt mixer model K5SSWW.I have a kitchenaid 5 qt mixer model K5SSWW. I need a bowl lift mechanism replacement part but can't find this...

The model number seems to be valid-but given the age of the unit few parts are readily available. You might want to try eBay or a used appliance store (or even Goodwill) to find a donor machine.

My kitchen-aid stand mixer won't spin when turned off. When on and mixing, the motor starts to "dog", or slow down, when it's mixing something as easy as cookie dough.

If the motor itself is slowing down, that is one thing. However, if you mean by "dog" that there is what sounds as if a gear is slipping then the solution is straight forward. The worm (follower) gear needs to be replaced.

There are videos on the net which show how to do this and the Service Manual can be found at:

Kitchenaid stand mixer bowl lift not working

Yikes!!! How old is your mixer? In most cases in a bowl lift model, the plastic lift mechanism breaks. It is not hard to fix or get fixed the parts are inexpensive and it is totally mechanical not electrical to fix. Go to and then click on support the drop down menu will give you a selection to get manuals and user guides, click that selection, then you go to a page that will ask you for model number, look under your mixer and use the model number on the white sticker. you will be able to download the parts list for that model. The parts list will show how the lift mechanism operates and how the parts go together. the next page will give you a part number for the parts involved in the lift mechanism. Now go on ebay or amazon and type in the part numbers that you need, you will find almost every part involved in the lift mechanism, Now get a screwdriver a punch and a non metal hammer, once you have the part list and you see how it goes together you will be able to disassemble the lift and repair. you can fix it for about $15.00 and an hours time. That does not include the wait time for parts shipping to you, that will take about a week. You can also call kitchen Aid and see where your nearest approved repair center is and take or ship your system there, "for the price of your first born". But while you are there you can buy the parts that you need. There are not a lot of authorizes centers around every corner. if you have a warranty definitely call Kitchenaid, they have one of the best "No Hassle" exchange for another mixer programs in the biz. The negative is that it ABSOLUTELY ends on day 365 of your one year warranty.

Kitchenaid stand mixer plastic piece broke and now bowl will not lift up and lock

Easy fix! go to this site

there are two sections here 66 user guides on top and 66 parts lists for the different variations. find your model and o-en it then save it to your computer. Go to the section that pertains to the lift mechanism and you will see all the parts that are in the lift. the next page down will give you the parts numbers for those that you need the plastic part of which you speak is about 7.00 dollars at or mendingshed, com. meding shed ships faster but both are reliable sources for KA parts. order your parts when that arrive get a screw driver a punch and a non metal hammer. will take you 20 mins if you are confident. If you are careful and mark everything and make notes to yourself (I do the notes thing all the time) it will take about 45 mins. let us know if this helps.

Hello. I have a Kitchen Aid mixer made by Hobart between 1975 and 1978. It is a stand mixer with a 5-quart bowl that lifts and locks into place. While it was kneading a bread dough, the motor...

Hello Suzann,

I understand that you are having a problem with your Kitchen Aid 5 Quart mixer. It sounds like you have stripped the gears or the worm gear out. Although, it may not be an expensive parts repair it is not an easy task to complete if you are not mechanical enclined. There are many different little gears in these units.

My suggestion would be to take it a local appliance repair shop that works on mixers. If you can tell me the city that you live in I would be more than happy to give you the location of one or two repair shops. As the unit is so old you want to invest in a new unit and keep that one as a reminder of how long Kitchen Aid has been around.

Thank you for choosing

Hi, I have a used Hobart A200T and the bowl yoke piece moves up and down slightly, even under a light load. It makes an annoying clanking noise. It's as if a spring somewhere is looser than it should be....

You may be correct about a loose spring. Check this:

Carefully lay the mixer on its back side to access the bottom of the mixer. Remove the cover screen covering the opening in the bottom of the mixer. Using an extension and appropriate socket, be sure the nut of the bowl lift rod is snug, slightly compressing the spring of the bowl lift rod.

The planetary mechanism (gear, plate, etc) on my 6Qt. 575Watt KitchenAid seems to have fallen more than a half inch along the main axle leaving a gap between the 'plate' and the bottom of the mixer head....

It appears that retaining ring (7) has snapped. It is the retaining ring which attaches to the drive shaft. Here is the parts diagram:

From it you can see how to remove the case cover and access the gear train. You may have to replace the shaft if its groove is worn allowing the retaining ring to slip off.

V1401 slips in all gears; what to adjust?

Take the top cover off,in front of you is the brake.Turn the mixer on and you will see it spin (put it in 1st gear),stop the mixer.on the right side you will see a pin that catches the brake flange,if its worn you can replace it,if its not worn then the brake needs adjusting as it acts like a clutch.Let me know,im a hobart tech band repair these units often.
