Question about NetGear WirelessN 300 USB Adapter WNA3100

2 Answers

My WNA3100 USB wireless adapter connects to the Internet via the NETGEAR Smart software. However, the computer is not reading it as an active wireless connection. Instead, the NETGEAR software says I'm connected, but windows is telling me no? Any help.

Hi,
I Would guess, that windows is leaving the handeling of the wireless connection to the NETGEAR software, and therefor not registering the device ad connected.
To make Windows regain controle take a look at this: http://www.bukisa.com/articles/115878_how-to-let-windows-configure-your-wireless-network-connection-in-xp

try moving your computer to a different area to gain maximum frequency / range

Click start control panel network and internet look for wireless

I just bought the NetGear wireless adapter today. the process runs smoothly until it asks me to hook the wireless adapter. A box pops up stating "detecting wireless adapter" it stays like that...

It looks like your NetGear WNA3100 is dead out of the box.
The software looks like it operating correctly (runs the installed diag, tries to detect, etc.), but
the software isn't having any luck finding the hardware.
The reason that the adapter is disabled in Device Management, is that the software seems
to have correctly installed the driver, but Windows couldn't detect (plug & play) the device, so
Windows didn't enable the device driver - Windows won't load a driver for a non-existent device.
Other (remote) possibilities:
(a) Wi-Fi adapter plugged into a bad USB port. - try another port.
(b) there's a little corrosion on USB contacts of USB port or WNA3100. Try plugging adapter
in and out of the port a few times (this shines up the contacts a bit).
(c) there's a slight misalignment of contacts within the USB connector or either the laptop, or
the WNA3100.
Your fix may be returning the NetGear WNA3100 to the retailer for an exchange.

Hi, my WNA3100 Wireless adapter does not work with windows 7, tried reinstalling the drivers and it still does not detect it, tried in my laptop wich has XP, works perfectly. How can I resolve this...

I did this and it worked for me.

*do not connect device to computer yet

**uninstall any previous versions of the software

1. run WNA 3100 v1.1.3.22 setup in normal mode, do not connect device when it asks you to

2. restart computer and boot up in safe mode (hold F8 after turning on comp before windows logo comes up)

3. once loaded in safe mode, connect wireless device, let windows install it

4. once done, start computer in normal mode

My WNA3100 adapter won't install; it practically freezes on "Detecting Adapter...". I read that Windows 7 sometimes installs these automatically, and mine did that, but I don't see the Wireless...

If the resource CD does not work then I would recommend you to download the installation software for the adapter from the below link:

http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17393

Install the adapter using the software available on the link above.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.
