My kitchen aid mixer will not mix....the motor is going but but nothing is moving
Hi AKRAUSSFAN, I hate it when that happens! From the description of your mixer’s symptom your mixer’s had a transmission failure in the primary gear box or the planetary gear assembly (agitator). One of the main gears has failed, hence the loss of power to the agitator, while the electric motor still runs.
The inspection and troubleshooting of the mixer transmission is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the correct Part List manual around when you start to disassemble your mixer. If you're lacking one, you can download it from the KA website at: (http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home).
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in this case KSM190P, and then select the file under Parts List (61) KSM150PSWH0.pdf (773.44 KB) (definitely check to see if this matches your mixer).
Turn to pages 4 & 5 titled: “Case, Gearing & Planetary Unit”, for the disassembly, troubleshooting, and reassembly of your mixer, along with all the parts. I suspect your culprit gear is Illus. No. 6, Worm Gear, in Illus. No. 27, Worm Gear Bracket and Gear assembly. KA designs this gear to fail on purpose so the rest of the mixer will not self destruct.
Once apart you can check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the other gears, etc. You may find more parts that need replacement than just a bad worm gear. You may also want to consider replacing all the grease, particularly if there are gear particles suspended in it.
Besides needing a replacement worm gear and grease, you might consider replacing the gasket (Illus. No 15), too. I recommend using a food-grade grease that you can order online (although I’ve seen automotive bearing grease used too – your call).
Here are five potential vendors in no particular order: RepairClinic.com; mendingshed.com; searspartsdirect.com; partstore.com; and Grainger.com (for grease). You should search for ‘food grade grease’ online (although I’ve seen automotive bearing grease used too – your call). Prices can vary widely between vendors, so do some comparison shopping.
Here are some links to several excellent websites that detail the disassembling/greasing and reassembly of a KA Mixer.
Between these three websites and their excellent pictures and descriptions and your Parts List manual, you should now be able to completely disassemble and reassemble your mixer.

The mixer attachments will not rotate just a motor noise

Kitchen aid gear- where the beaters are attached - comes out og mixer. Can place back and it works - but how do I fix permanently
Hi BEV, By the symptoms you are describing, it appears that your planetary/agitator shaft (where you attach the beaters) assembly is dropping from the mixer head, is that correct? When you replace the planetary and lift your bowl up into a ‘locked’ position, the planetary is being held in place by the beater resting on the bottom of your mixing bowl and ‘works’ for the time being. However, you don’t want operate your mixer that way for very long.
I suspect what caused the planetary/agitator shaft to drop from the mixer head is that one of the pins used to secure the planetary/agitator shaft assembly to the mixer head has failed (sheared) so now there is nothing holding the planetary/agitator to the mixer head. The good news is that this is fixable.
The inspection and troubleshooting of your mixer’s transmission is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the correct Part List manual around when you start to disassemble your mixer. If you are lacking one, you can download it from the KA website (http://www.kitchenaid.com/flash.cmd?/#/page/home).
Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals& Guides> and enter the 6 character model number, in your case KSM50PS. Unfortunately, entering your exact model number yields many Owners manual and no Parts Manuals, so I would use the following, KSM500, and select the last file under Parts List (16) KSM500WH0.pdf (857.41 KB). Verify your mixer matches the mixer in the illustrations. Turn to pages 4 & 5, titled ‘Case, Gearing & Planetary Unit, for the disassembly, troubleshooting, and reassembly of your mixer, along with a listing of all the parts. Make sure you inspect
Locate Illust. No. 14, Groove Pin, Part # 9795443. This pin retains the planetary/agitator shaft to the mixer head, and I suspect this is the pin that has failed and needs to be replaced. Getting to it will require the disassembly of the whole transmission. This will be messy as you will need to remove all the grease from the gears and center shaft.
While your mixer’s apart you should check for any other unseemly wear and tear on the gears, etc. You may find more things that need replacement than just the groove pin.
Besides needing a replacement pin and grease, you might consider replacing the gasket, too. I recommend using a food-grade grease that you can order online (although I’ve seen automotive bearing grease used too – your call).

Kitchenaid 625 watt 6 quart mixer. Was using it
HAMILTONCOOL - It appears that your mixer had a mechanical failure in the transmission box or planetary gear assembly of your mixer failure - one of the main gears has failed, hence the loss of power to the agitator. You didn't mention any associated noise prior to the loss of power to your agitator, but I'm assuming there was just a little more noise than usual, prior to failure.
The inspection and troubleshooting of the transmission is a DITY capability, particularly if your mixer is out of warranty. Just be sure to have the correct Part List manual around when you start to disassemble your mixer. If you're lacking one, you can download it from the KA website. Click on Customer Care>Locate Manuals & Guides> Enter the 6 character model number, and then select Parts List file. My Hobart D300 mixer appears to be leaking oil/grease
Hi,I'm a hobart tech and repair these mixer's often.If you see oil in the drip cup then the center shaft seal in the transmission is worn.If there is oil near the transformer then the motor shaft seal is also bad.Hobart doesnt release their service manuals to the public but if you go to their site www.hobartcorp.com you can register for free and get a parts manual thats helpful.If you need help with the repair let me know,i can step you through it.

Kitchenaid stand mixer leaking oil from head over beater area. Can this be fixed by a professional repair person?
I called the 800 service number when mine did the same thing. They advised to:

1. Use the processor more frequently to avoid this in the future; and
2. To fun the motor on speed setting "10" for two minutes.

A harmless vegetable grease, normally solid, has separated due to infrequent use and leaked a bit ( a few tablespoons in my case). Running the motor on high speed causes it to re-solidify, they said. Wipe clean. Forget about it.

Some of the oil has separated from the grease inside the transmission, the grease should be replaced. You don't need a total dismantle,. simply remove the top cover and the transmission housing. Remove as much old grease as you can, then replace it with grease from Kitchenaid Parts, or locate a Shell Oil distributor in your area, you want Shell Darina XL EP-2. The oil that came out of your unit probably won't be enough to do immediate damage, but because it's separating, it's becoming less effective.
