Power cords should not get hot, short or smoke. This is a fire hazard and it should not be used until a replacement is found or the the kettle is checked out for safe operation.

thank you for stating the obvious. I was hoping you could provide me with some information on this product like is this a common problem with this specific model or was there ever a recall for this problem?

I can only answer the questions that you post. If you wanted to know something else about the appliance, simply ask. You'd be very surprised at what may seem to be obvious to you or I, but is a complete mystery to someone else.

I can't answer your follow up question about a recall since you didn't provide a brand or model of the appliance. I also am not completely sure if the problem is for a kettle or microwave oven, since both are listed. It's these conflicting and missing bits of information for problems that make answering questions difficult at times.

Please provide the brand and model of your appliance, and any other questions you have about it, and I'll do my best to get the answer for you.

Yes, if your worried, use a fine emory paper to clean off the tarnish from the heat scorch. You may have shortened the life a little on the element but it is fine as long as it is not spalling, of flaking.

My electrical water kettle does not heat to solve the problem?

Check the kettle at another socket to ensure the socket isn't the problem.
Replace the fuse in the plug.
If the power flex is removable from the kettle, check the terminals in the connector havn't become burned.
The chances are that the element may have burned out in the kettle and in this case it probably isn't worth repairing.

We need a new cord, our has been damaged. Where can we find this item? Does it need to be specially ordered? Do you need more info about the microwave? THank you- D.

It is quite possible that the cord is removable as on kettle. In this case, a kettle cord can be used.
If the cord is hard wired to the microwave, it will have to be replaced by a technician or electrician but ordinary 3 core pvc cable with a cross sectional area of 1 square mm can be used.( For a 230v supply)

Limited heat power

It sounds like the transformer is shorting out on you but is not completely shorted. It will be shorting out on the output side of the transformer.this will give you a lower output level, and will cause the microwaves to be weaker.(less turns of wire in the secondary of the transformer). The short will probably get worse.Simply replacing the transformer should cure the microwave.
