All the cables are connected, my Dell laptop says I am connected to the wireless network max signal strength, but I can not cannot access the internet, it worked fine with HNS 7000, but it is not working with HN 9000.

Does it matter which LAN connections the modem and computer are plugged into on the back of the SMC 7004?

  • ajwoodb Jul 08, 2011

Ok, I plugged the modem into WAN port and I was able to access the internet with my laptop, HOWEVER, now the Desktop computer can not access the the internet, unless I plug the modem into a LAN port , then the laptop does not work.

Still the same after restarting computer, my desktop is an Optiplex GX270, in case that helps or makes a difference, thank you.

It worked fine running both with the HN 7000, i will try again, but changing the ports did not make a difference.

Hello.

Your new modem should work automatically with your new router just by connecting them. Make sure everything is connected properly. From the modem to the router, from the router to the phone line/cable, and if you are using a wired connection, from the router to your computer.

If you are having any problem, please describe it.

The MODEM should be connected to the WAN slot of your router. It doesn't really matter which port (from 1-4) of LAN your computer is connected to.

Update me if you are still having problems.

Connect your Desktop cable to LAN1 and the modem should still be connected to WAN slot. Try restarting your desktop if you still can't get a connection.

    Update me.

Try connecting your desktop cable to LAN2 then LAN3 and LAN4 slots. It could be a faulty slot.

Before buying the new modem, where you having issues connecting both desktop and laptop?

OK, update me if you are still having problems connecting both laptop and desktop. And tell me the OS you are using (Windows xp, vista or windows 7)

Wndr 3300 net gear router wont work with hn 9000 hughes net modem

I went to the Hughes web site to check out the modem. They say it is also a router. I think you will have to disable the router abilities of your WNDR 3300 Net Gear Router.

Get into the Netgear setup by loging on to it.In its WAN setup select Static IP Address and set the Static IP Address to the same as the hughes modem, except for the last number which should be about 50 greater. IE: Hughes 192.168.12.1 and Netgear 192.168.12.55.

In the DHCP setup, disable the DHCP Server

In the Wireless setup, Give your network a name is SSID. You should also set up security to keep others off you internet connection with a WEP key.

I hope this helps.

Broadband router

You need to plug your blue cable back into your laptop and the other end needs to go into your hughes modem, or you could leave the end that is plugged into your hughes modem and put the end that is now in the desktop modem into your laptop instead. To have the desktop on the internet you have to remove the end in the laptop and put it into the desktop modem.

The blue cable is spare unless you have any extra sockets that will accommodate it in your hughes modem and have both laptop and desktop connected to it.
