It will eventually reset itself, usually after being unplugged for an hour or so, but the error will return regularly. There are several posts all over the place on this error, but it seems that it is seldom solved, without replacing the scanner unit (entire top of machine) - which is obviously not worth the hassle/expense. Just seems to be a common problem with this family of machines

Two parts of the printer can affect this.
1) the toner cartridge
2) the fuser
Testing can be done to determine the problematic part.
Do a print using manual feed. Once the last bit of paper goes into the machine, open the printer door.
Remove the toner to check if smudge is there.
Replace toner cartridge if there is smudge, replace fuser it not.

After you power on the printer, does it ALWAYS do calibration, and if so, does the calibration cycle complete or just goes on and on?
From your description, it sounds like the printer will come to the READY ... eventually after calibration. That's a good sign. The fact that it does not print could be other factors.
1. first, get a high speed parallel cable and hook the printer directly up to your computer. Be sure your commnications are good.
1a. if you only have ethernet connection to the printer, then you'll need to print out the information page so that you can find the IP address of the printer. If the printer's IP address shows all zeros, then the IP address for the printer's jet direct card has not been defined. Instead of going on about how to install a new port, drivers, etc. please tell me where you're at.

that is because ur head of ur printing cartridge is damaged.
remove ur cartridges black as well as color
n install only black cartridge n check d blinking of lights on ur printer if it doesn't blinks it's mean ur black cartridge is OK but ur blinking of light on ur printer is same it's mean ur head of black cartridge is damaged
after this process remove the black one cartridge and install the color one cartridge n check d blinking of lights on ur printer if it doesn't blinks it's mean ur color cartridge is OK but ur blinking of light on ur printer is same it's mean ur head of color cartridge is damaged
now take a dry cotton cloth n gently clean ur cartridges head install both cartridges on ur printer n check ur blinking light on ur printer that will work only if u r too lucky other wise u have to purchase a one cartridge.

I also have the OfficeJet 6500 and had the same problem. The black text was printing using a mix of colored inks instead of the black ink, resulting in a grey, fuzzy text. I finally found a solution. In each application under Page Setup, there is an option called "Format for". Mine had been set to "Any Printer". I changed that to "Officejet 6500 E709n [830E4A]" and now it prints the black just fine. I have a Mac running 10.4.11. Hope this helps.
