I have problems too with my Daewoo HC-6120ux. It doesn't render properly some of my DVDs. Where can I download an update for it?

Cleaning lens (manually) seems to have worked. But, I'm still irritated about having so many unnecessary variables to deal with. The pattern is clear and long. And the landfills are full of hard working people's money.

I am beginning to think the machine works with slower discs but a firmware update will enable the machine to function with the newer "16x" and other discs. Unfortunately, neither Presidian nor the "real" manufacturer (whose name slipped my mind) seem to currently have the update available on their web sites.

I don't know if this will help, but according to the operator's manual I have, on page 64, the only place it mentions "Full" or "Quick" Preparation, is when using a DVD-RW disc. Apparently, with this type of disc, you must use the Full or Quick preparation INSTEAD of Finalizing after you're thru recording onto the disc.
With the DVD-R and DVD+R, all you can do is "Finalize"; With the DVD+RW, if I'm reading this correctly, NIETHER Finalization OR Preparation is required.
But with the DVD-RW, apparently ALL you can do is a "FULL" or "QUICK Preparation.
If you're only getting "Erase or "Finalize" WITH the DVD-RW, then it appears there may be a problem with the machine.
Or, if you're attempting the "FULL or QUICK" Preparation with any disc OTHER than the DVD-RW, all you should get is "erase" or Finalize", since the QUICK or FULL Preparation is not done with discs other than DVD-RWs.

Hope this helps. I'm certainly not an expert on these things....I'm a "Vinyl" type guy.

When a disk is stuck inside the player , try following the procedure below:

Unplug power cord.
Plug back power.
Turn on the unit and press repeatedly the eject button at the same time. If you successeed in ejecting the disk before the player starts reading TOC(disk initial track), then the disk will eject.
If that does not work, then there is an internal fault, in that case the unit must be taken apart to remove the disk.

Have had the same problem with my Presidian3222 for the last year, if I recorded something it would come back as invalid disc or blank disc or would not close disc out right, got so damn mad almost took a hammer to it last night, unplugged it like clicky said, did no good, thought cable co may have been sending single to screw up recording, but today took camcorder and tried to record something, same thing which seemed to let the cable co off the hook.
the following seemed to have fixed the problem, first open the player then unplug it, close the drawer 1/2 way, then I took compressed air and blew inside the player to clean the laser after that I have been able to record 3 movies and close the disc properly and finalize the disc properly, I even had 50 new disc made by sony that recorded kept saying were invalid, reads them fine now, I hope this helps everyone, because I was on the edge of putting this thing in the trash last night.

Considering the DVD player is inside of the unit, and the unit will not play a DVD (I am assuming you put in a DVD) while in DVD mode, the conclusion I would draw would be that the unit is defective and should be returned. To give details to this deduction: DVD Mode has power, just is not producing an image. --Known because it can play games.

If you're using the S-video connection, one of the wires in the cable may be disconnected or broken... or maybe the S-video connector on either end is broken.

I'm no laser expert, but I do have a friend that works in the metal forming industry and I remember chatting with him about this a while back.

I think the main difference is simply that tube lasers only work with tubes and pipes whereas flat lasers work with metal sheets. Some flat lasers can have a tube cutting add on, but they're not designed to efficiently and quickly cut tube materials.

Tube laser cutters, on the other hand, are huge dedicated machines that are designed specifically to be able to cycle through lengths of tubes in an automated fashion. I wouldn't know the technical differences between them, but you might be able to find out more on the Boydstun website. They offer both tube laser cutting and flat laser services. Here is their flat laser page where you can read more information about it.
