Kenmore Refrigerators - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

Your drainpipe might be blocked, you will need to check the reservoir at the bottom back of the fridge. It's a bit technical. I would recommend getting some help.

It could be the defrost-limit thermostat (bi-metal), or a bad temperature-conrol (cold-control) thermostat.

There are two handle styles for the Kenmore Ultra Fresh refrigerators available around the time of the model, 106.55539400. On one handle style, you need to remove trim pieces to access the part of the handle where it is attached to the door of the refrigerator. In turn, apply firm pressure on each trim piece and push it away from the handle. (Push the top trim piece up and the bottom one down.) For the other style, the handle locks into shoulder pieces that are attached to the door. Again use firm pressure on the handle; hold it in the middle of the handle. Push the handle up until it clears these shoulders. Then determine the correct screwdriver tip to use to tighten these screws. See page 7 of the manual, , for pictures of these handles. On some more recent refrigerators, you will need to use an Allan wrench to tighten set screws to the hardware shoulders on the door. There will be a small opening on either end of the handle for the Allen wrench to be pushed into contact with the screw.

Please add a comment with the model of your refrigerator for specifics about the handle for your unit. I hope this helps.

All have a pan located under the evaporator core. The drain hole is located at the lowest point in the pan.
Occasionally the hole will freeze up with ice and not flow.
Defrost the fridge for two days and this will usually open the tube. Use care when working with electrical appliances.

Thermistors input temperatures to the control boards. Thermistors may have a 2k Ohms value at 70° F, a service manual or guide, or look up part number for replacing any thermistor out of range.

Its possible that the door switches or one of them is not being activated by the doors and could require adjusting if adjustment is an option. Look into this first, seems to me its a good possibility that it could be the fault.

Is there a fan in the refrigerator which draws cold air from freezer. If so is fan working, if fan not working may be faulty fan or thermostat. May also be blocked duct from freezer to refrigerator, only there if fan is used as above.

The bar will sense ice cube level in the holding bin. If it is all the way down it will tell the ice maker to make more ice. When the maker "dumps" the ice the bar should be all the way up and will lower to check the level.
