Call the Kodak customer service number and tell them that you need a new printhead, that's the device that your cartridges fit into.  They know that they have a problem but they will ask you to print a test sheet anyway.  They should ship you a new printhead within about five days - at no cost.  The printhead only seems to last about 4-6 months with my occasional use.  Tell them that they should replace the ink cartridges since you used probably used up the ones in the printer trying to do the diagnostics of cleaning the printhead.  They may not replace the cartridges but we should give them a hard time since it's their problem.

I hear this is a common fault with these printers. Kodak are aware of the problem. If you follow the trouble shooting section on the kodak home page you will be given a reference number and be asked to phone their tech support. Tech support will take the ref number and your address and send you a new print head. They do this free of charge. They don't even ask when or where printer was bought. The only info they ask for is the servive number, which you will find when you open the top of the machine.

the serial number is the same as the service number located at the bottom of the printer or at the top of the printer ink access area.

I've got a solution. We should find a way to file a class action lawsuit against these companies. Not just for ourselves, but for the environment itself. For years I've had issues with bad printheads and the ink costing more than a newer printer that comes with ink! That ink is toxic to the environment. I know places like Staples offer incentives to recycle them now. But what about the years before? Not to mention the idea of an entire printer going to a landfill since it's 'no good' anymore. Plastic produced from crude oil, logic boards silicon, lcd panels, steel roads, etc. Those are finite resources that don't just replenish themselves. What do these companies think will happen when those resources are exhausted and our planet is tainted with toxic chemicals? All the money in the world can't fix that! Nor will it fix what's already been done for decades. If anyone here knows a 'good' attorney willing to undertake this and is ready to have us sign up let me know. Knowing the ink is still in the cartridge that has to be recycled burns me. Knowing the companies that rob us blind, and most likely reuse those same cartridges, just to get even richer disgusts me. If our economy is in shambles why let these bastards push us further into the financial muck any further than we are already?!?!?!

It is the print head. Cleaning the heads does not do any good, either does replacing the ink. What you'll need to do is contact Kodak's customer service line and they can replace it for you free of charge. On this site everyone seems to be saying it is consistently the black that stops, however, based on what Kodak said it is possible that either the black or the color can have this same issue.

When you call in they will ask you for your service number, which is located on the bottom left corner of the machine, when you lift the lid (as if you were going to replace the ink). They didn't ask me when I bought it, how much I used it, etc.

They will set up a case for you - it takes 2-3 business days for the print head to arrive. They will provide you with an invoice number as well. Be sure to document it all just incase the head never comes, or if there are additional issues after you receive it (and/or if it doesn't solve the problem)
